  • Lightning Strike’s Damian Christodero recently wrote “Niittymaki will keep playing until the coaching staff thinks his game takes a dip. Then it’s on to Smith and we see what he can do with his chance.” Going by that statement, Antero Niittymaki will start considering he remains in the league leaders in GAA.

  • Vesa Toskala in net, confirmed here.  Still awaiting word from Montreal, but I would guess Jaroslav Halak.
  • Tomas Vokoun listed as likely here.

  • All signs point to Chris Mason, Tomas Vokoun and Ryan Miller as the remaining starters.
  • Montreal’s starter is a “toss-up” as is Toronto’s.

  • The Phoenix Coyotes Official Site lists Ilya Bryzgalov as expected against his former team the Ducks.  Likewise, expect Jonas Hiller to suit up against the Yotes.  Jean-Sebastien Giguere is still nursing a sore groin, as reported in the LATimes.  In the meantime, Justin Pogge will remain Hiller‘s backup.

  • Pascal Leclaire says he feels better, here.  Expect him to make the start.
  • Mike Heika has Pekka Rinne in his gametime predictions.  Heika is usually right about these (although wrong yesterday) regardless I will continue to monitor my Pred’s sources.

  • Getting conflicting tales on Tuuka Rask and Tim Thomas, the official site is leaning towards Thomas here.  Will keep you posted.  Oiler’s starter Nikolai Khabibulin is expected to face Boston.
  • As previously mentioned, don’t expect Brian Boucher in for a little while.  Ray Emery starts against Carolina.

  • Chip Alexander’s most recent post implies Cam Ward in net tonight and Michael Leighton in tomorrow in San Jose.

Here are the expected starters for tonight:

  • The AP implies here that Evgeni Nabokov duels with Niklas Backstrom tonight.

  • Interesting to see if Pete DeBoer goes with Tomas Vokoun as originally planned.  As noted here, Scott Clemmensen is still not back with his team, “needs about a week of practice before he is ready.”  Alexander Salak meanwhile remains Vokoun’s backup.  Vokoun is written about again hereMartin Brodeur as always is expected to start for the Devils.
  • Marc Andre Fleury is projected to start against the Leafs, according to this preview.   Jonas Gustavsson was placed on IR Thursday according to the same article.  Vesa Toskala starts with Joey MacDonald his backup tonight.
  • Chris Osgood has been discussed at length here.  It is safe to say he will be in the lineup after his solid performance against Chicago.  Still no word on the Washington starter.
  • Tuuka Rask may get his first start tonight, as discussed by Bruins Blog’s Fluto Shinzawa here.  The same is confirmed on the Isles’ site here.  Still no word on the starter for the Isles, will keep you updated.

  • Ilya Bryzgalov will start tonight against Columbus, confirmed here Mathieu Garon may get his first start of the year, as stated here.
  • Chris Mason is expected to bounce back from his last performance against Los Angeles.  The severity of his sluggishness is discussed here. The same article mentions  Jon Quick as the projected starter against St. Louis.
  • Craig Anderson looks to continue his hot start against the Blackhawks.  You can read all about it here.

  • Nashville Predators beat writer John Glennon writes here that Pekka Rinne will make his season debut tonight.
  • Damian Cristodero announced here that Antero Niittymaki will start tonight for Tampa Bay.  Mike Smith is still recovering from his collision with Jamie Langenbrunner.
  • I posted this link yesterday, but it doesn’t hurt to reiterate.

“We’d like to get Mike (Leighton) in a game, there’s no question about that,” Maurice said. “The schedule does not show of lot of urgency not to play Cam back to back. We have days off.”

Sounds like Cam Ward should get the start tonight
