  • Shaone Morrisonn skated but will not play, Karl Alzner play in his place. [In the Room]

  • Joni Pitkanen will play tonight. [Canes Now]
  • Scott Walker is doubtful for tonight.  Cory LaRose did not practice while Cam Ward practiced with goalie coach Tom Barasso. [Canes Country]

Pittsburgh Penguins

Buffalo Sabres

  • Paul Gaustad will not play. [Sabres.com]
  • Still awaiting word on the status of Craig Rivet.

Toronto Maple Leafs

  • Mike Komisarek expected back when the Leafs face the Sabres. [TSN]

Philadelphia Flyers

  • Daniel Briere still down with the flu, but should be close to 100 percent for Thursday’s game. Simon Gagne could return in three weeks, while Darroll Powe and Blair Betts are out until January.  [Broad Street Bull]

New Jersey Devils

  • Jay Pandolfo and Rob Niedermayer practiced today. [Fire & Ice]

Here are the expected starters for tonight:

  • Jimmy Howard expected to start for the Red Wings.  Howard is 4-2-1 on the season with a 2.85 GAA and .898 SV%, however the 25 year old has won his last three appearances, allowing only six goals in the process.  Bruce MacLeod of The Macomb Daily announces the goalie rotation through Saturday.
  • Mike Heika’s Five for Fighting announces Marty Turco should probably play tonight for the Stars.  Turco is 6-3-4 in 13 starts with a 2.25 GAA and .920 SV%. SEE 2:24 UPDATE BELOW

  • Ryan Miller confirmed by Mike Harrington’s Sabres EdgeMiller is 12-2-1 in 15 games with 2 shutouts a 1.77 GAA and .939 SV%, putting him among the league leaders in all categories.

  • Adrian Dater reports, via Twitter, Craig Anderson will start again.  Per TSN Ice Chips, Miikka Kiprusoff will get the nod.
  • Expect Evgeni Nabokov to start, I wouldn’t imagine Thomas Greiss making two straight starts.
