Carolina Hurricanes v New York Islanders

In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO) and thus exclude player’s salaries.

A few important things happened last night.  The Flames broke a scary win less streak while Steve Mason somewhat redeemed himself in the eyes of his team.  Here are our standout fantasy stars for the evening:

THIRD STAR: Rene Bourque, Calgary Flames (0-1-1) –  Bourque played a pivotal role in leading his team to a 4-1 victory.  The Lac La Biche, Alberta native scored three, one on the powerplay, one shorthanded and one even strength.  In addition, this 28-year-old fired only three shots on net giving him a perfect shooting percentage while also posting a perfect plus two.

Only two games and four teams in action last night, so not much to report.  All of our stars actually come from the same game.  Here are our standout fantasy stars for the evening:

THIRD STAR: Wojtek Wolski, Colorado Avalanche (0-0-1) –  The Avalanche top line stepped up in a big way.  The recently formed line of Wolski – Paul Stastny – Stewart broke out in the first period and the team never looked back.  The 23-year-old scored a powerplay goal and assisted on another leading his team to a 3-2 victory over the Flames. The native of Zabrze, Poland fired three shots on goal and finished a perfect plus one on the evening.

Buffalo Sabres v Washington Capitals

In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO)

THIRD STAR: Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning (0-0-1) – One of the hottest players in hockey deserves mention here with his contributions across all six standard offensive categories.  The former 1st overall pick added a goal and an assist on the powerplay to his lofty totals.  In addition the 19-year-old put two shots on goal, sat two minutes in the box and finished the evening a plus one as his Lightning easily beat the Rangers 5-1.

SECOND STAR: Alexei Ponikarovsky, Toronto Maple Leafs (0-1-0) – Tough decision here between the 29-year-old left wing and Stamkos.  Poni shined in the Leaf’s 6-4 win against Florida, scoring a goal and assisting on three more.  The former 4th round draft pick broke a three game scoreless steak in fashion by putting up two points on the powerplay, posting a plus three rating and adding a shot on goal.
