Vancouver Canucks v Philadelphia Flyers

In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO) and thus exclude player’s salaries.

Honestly, it was not a terribly boring Sunday.  With six games and 12 teams in action the NHL took on the NFL head-to-head and fared rather favorably.  A night for the offense as seven of 12 scored at least 3 goals. Here are our standout fantasy stars for the evening:

THIRD STAR: Lee Stempniak, Toronto Maple Leafs (0-0-1) –  Stempniak earned first star honors in his actual game as he lead the Leafs to a 4-3 victory over the Penguins. The 26-year-old right wing scored a powerplay goal while assisting on two more goals.  In addition, he fired three shots on goal while posting a perfect plus two on the evening.  Mostly labeled a bust since his arrival in Toronto Stempniak’s game shows signs of turning the corner and becoming a true scoring threat.

Last night certainly was one for the offense.  Out of the 16 teams in action 10 scored three goals or more.  Most owners were able to smile at the end of the night, unless you own Steve Mason or Dwayne Roloson. Here are our standout fantasy stars for the evening:

THIRD STAR: Steve Sullivan, Nashville Predators (0-0-1) –  Sully came through in a big way last night scoring a hat trick on the aforementioned Mason.  In addition, the veteran winger posted a perfect plus three while taking a healthy four shots on goal and sitting two minutes in the box for high sticking. At the ripe age of 35, Sullivan shows no signs of slowing down following multiple back surgeries.

Twelve games and 24 teams in action last night, certainly a good night to be a hockey fan.  Ten out of the 24 finished with two goals or less, giving offenses a win for once.  Here are our standout fantasy stars for the evening:

THIRD STAR: Mason Raymond, Vancouver Canucks (0-0-1) – Raymond has three points in his last two games following a five game pointless streak.  The 24-year-old scored a goal and added an assist, both on the powerplay to give him two points on the evening. In addition, the Calgary native fired two shots on net and sat four minutes in the box.  One of our original NHLHS Endorsed Pickups, Raymond is once again stepping up his game in a big way.
