Daily Fantasy 3 Stars 12/29/2009

Dallas Stars v Los Angeles Kings

In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO) and thus exclude player’s salaries.

A pretty strong night for offenses League wide.  Aside from the goaltending clinic on the Island and the rare offensive dearth for Vancouver, every other team scored at least three goals.  Here are our standout fantasy stars for the evening:

THIRD STAR: Bobby Ryan, Anaheim Ducks (0-0-1) –  By all means Ryan simply dominated last night’s play.  Last year’s Calder runner-up scored two, one on the powerplay and one even strength, while assisting on one more leading the Ducks to a 4-2 victory.  The 22-year-old added three shots on net while finishing a plus two on the night.  Since uniting with Saku Koivu and Dan Sexton the results are impressive.  All three line-mates deserve a spot on your team if they are still available.

Here are our standout fantasy stars for the evening:

THIRD STAR: Todd Bertuzzi, Detroit Red Wings (0-0-1) –  With the subtractions of Marian Hossa, Tomas Kopecky and Jiri Hudler over the offseason and pretty much everyone else during the regular season, Bertuzzi finally finds himself in a position to succeed.  Playing primarily with Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom works wonders for Big Bert’s confidence as he finally appears back in form.  The controversial winger scored a goal and put two assists on the scoresheet even though his team eventually fell to the Stars.  The 34-year-old tied his season=high six shots on goal while maintaining a modest plus two rating.  Probably would not  hurt to give this guy some playing time until the rest of the lineup catches up.
