Michael Leighton, Jeremy Reich Placed on Waivers

Carolina Hurricanes v Buffalo Sabres

Bob MacKenzie reports, via Twitter, both of these players have been placed on waivers.

According to Chip Alexander’s Canes Now starter Cam Ward is expected to play Wednesday making the Leighton expendable to the team.  In parts of three seasons with Carolina the 28-year-old held a line of 8-12-0-2 averaging a GAA of over three.  With other established backups such as Joey MacDonald and Steve Valiquette passing through waivers earlier in the year I would expect there to be few takers on the veteran.

In other news the New York Islanders also placed 30-year-old Jeremy Reich on waivers.  The Craik, Saskatchewan native did not play a game for the Isles and has six points over 99 career NHL games with the Bruins and Blue Jackets.  He was originally drafted in the 2nd round by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Daily Fantasy 3 Stars 12/01/2009

Anaheim Ducks v New Jersey Devils

In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO) and thus exclude player’s salaries.

THIRD STAR: Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks (0-0-1) – Although his team eventually lost to the Kings 4-3, Getzlaf continues his fantasy dominance despite his team in the the bottom of the standings.  Actually all three stars come from the same game which is a rarity but we did only have four games last night. The 24-year-old assisted on two goals, one of which coming on the powerplay. The center added two shots and finished the evening a plus one.  Not his most impressive fantasy outing but a star nevertheless.

SECOND STAR: Jack Johnson, Los Angeles Kings (0-1-0) – This 22-year-old defenseman is not known for his offense, yet. JJ broke out last night, adding two assists, taking two shots on net, sitting four minutes in the box and posting a plus two rating.  Johnson now has eight points on the season, putting him in line to shatter his career high of 11 points.  Will this year be his breakout year? Probably not, but the offense is definitely coming around.
