Daily Fantasy 3 Stars 11/22/2009

11/23/2009
Montreal Canadiens v Chicago Blackhawks

In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO)

THIRD STAR: Slava Kozlov (0-0-1), Atlanta Thrashers -The veteran winger contributed in a big way for his team Sunday afternoon.  Scoring a goal and an assist his breakout kept the Thrashers in the game.  He added 3 shots and finished the evening a plus two.  Tough call between Kozlov and teammate Tobias Enstrom, but the Russian edged him out by one shot and an extra plus.  Coming off a 76-point season he only has 10 points in his first 20 games, making him an ideal buy-low candidate.

SECOND STAR: Kurtis Foster, Tampa Bay Lightning (0-1-0) -Who would have thought I would mention Foster twice in one week!  Playing primarily with Vincent Lecavalier, the journeyman defenseman made the brief switch to forward and it paid dividends.  He finished the game with a goal and an assist, contributing a powerplay point, four shots on goal and a plus one.  Congratulations Kurtis, you’re a NHLHS celebrity.

Daily Fantasy 3 Stars 11/19/2009

11/20/2009
Anaheim Ducks v Chicago Blackhawks

Another new feature here on NHLHS. I will break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP,PIM, SOG; Goalies – W,GAA,SV%,SHO)

THIRD STAR: Kristian Huselius (0-0-1), Columbus Blue Jackets – Huselius had a huge fantasy night on Thursday.  The 31 year old winger potted two goals, one on the power-play and the other shorthanded.  He also added an assist, four shots and was a plus one.  Mostly branded as inconsistent throughout his career the Swedish native has been known to have big nights like this.  In total, Huselius contributed to five of out six fantasy categories making him our third star of the evening.

SECOND STAR: Ilya Kovalchuk, Atlanta Thrashers (0-1-0) – The Thrasher’s captain continues his hot streak with a truly dominant performance against the Bruins.  With one goal and two assists, Kovy added to his impressive points totals.  His production does not stop there as the impending free agent added four shots, two power-play points and finished a plus one, contributing to five offensive categories.

Restoring the Rosters: Boston Bruins

11/19/2009
Boston Bruins v Buffalo Sabres

Based on Matthew Pouliot’s series on Circling the Bases, I have decided restore the rosters for every NHL team. Like Pouliot, I have established some ground rules for my selections.

  1. Each team contains players they originally drafted or signed before any other NHL team. This includes players drafted and not signed, as well as European free agents coming over at an older age.  I have chosen to leave retired players off the list, and lean toward players in the AHL rather than those deported (KHL, SEL, DEL, etc.).

Essentially I am choosing the best available players for a team to succeed in the current NHL season. All 30 teams will be covered, with grades assigned to forwards, defense and goal-tending. After all 30 articles are written, they will be ranked in order. This series’ intent is to reward or shame NHL scouts.

Much of the Bruins drafting success has come from recently restoring the cupboards.  Regardless of where it came from, the Bruins have been quite successful in locating and developing high end forward talent and decent defensive depth.

The lineup for the Boston Bruins is as follows.

Starting Goalies 11/15/2009

11/15/2009

Here are the expected starters for tonight:

UPDATED 11/15/2009 @ 5:17 PM

  • Not much reporting going on today.  No update from Working the Corners with David Pollack or even a game-day update from Randy Hahn on Facebook, leaving me SOL with Shark sources.  I’m assuming Evgeni Nabokov starts for the Sharks, which makes sense considering Todd McClellan has already started Nabokov on back-to-back starts this season AND Thomas Greiss just started on 11/10/2009.

UPDATED 11/15/2009 @ 1:22 PM

UPDATED 11/15/2009 @ 1:11 PM

  • I’m assuming Niklas Backstrom will start as there is no word otherwise.  Josh Harding also made the last start for the Wild, so I wouldn’t expect him to sit tonight.

UPDATED 11/15/2009 @ 12:00 PM

UPDATED 11/15/2009 @ 10:38 AM

  • Michael Leighton in net according to Chip Alexander’s Canes Now.
  • As you may or may not have read here, NHLHotStove.com is coming soon.  Right now I have added an About page and solved numerous formatting problems as well as sources for all 30 teams.  Check out our ever-changing beta here!
