Daily Fantasy 3 Stars 12/29/2009

Dallas Stars v Los Angeles Kings

In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO) and thus exclude player’s salaries.

A pretty strong night for offenses League wide.  Aside from the goaltending clinic on the Island and the rare offensive dearth for Vancouver, every other team scored at least three goals.  Here are our standout fantasy stars for the evening:

THIRD STAR: Bobby Ryan, Anaheim Ducks (0-0-1) –  By all means Ryan simply dominated last night’s play.  Last year’s Calder runner-up scored two, one on the powerplay and one even strength, while assisting on one more leading the Ducks to a 4-2 victory.  The 22-year-old added three shots on net while finishing a plus two on the night.  Since uniting with Saku Koivu and Dan Sexton the results are impressive.  All three line-mates deserve a spot on your team if they are still available.

SECOND STAR: Shea Weber, Nashville Predators (0-1-0) –  This monster of a defenseman also led his team to victory last night.  Weber assisted on three of the team’s four goals including the game typing powerplay tally from Joel Ward.  This 24-year-old and Olympic hopeful also fired an impressive seven shots on goal while taking a minor penalty and posting a solid plus one.  Strong contributions across five offensive categories make Weber our second star.

FIRST STAR:  Steve Ott, Dallas Stars (1-0-0) –  Ott scored two goals, including the game winning powerplay goal, and assisted on another contributing in three of his team’s five goals last night.  The 27-year-old received first star honors in the game and likewise deserves the nod today in our three stars.  In addition, Ott posted a plus three rating, sat two minutes in the box and boasted a perfect two-for-two shooting percentage.

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Drew Stafford, Mike Ribeiro, Patrick Kane, JP Dumont, Marcel Goc, Alexander Steen, Andy McDonald, Dwayne Roloson
