In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO) and thus exclude player’s salaries.
THIRD STAR: Brian Rolston, New Jersey Devils (0-0-2) – The 36-year-old continues his resurgence. The left wing scored a powerplay goal and assisted on another helping the Devils beat the Lightning 3-2. He added two shots on net and posted a plus one rating giving him an excellent fantasy line. Rolston contributed over five standard categories making him our third star for the second time now.
SECOND STAR: Dan Hamhuis, Nashville Predators (0-1-0) – Not usually known for his offense, the former first rounder contribute a goal and an assist. In addition, he took two shots on net, added four penalty minutes and finished the evening a plus two. In his last four games the defenseman has four points. With the Predators on the rise he may be a good pickup for a #4 as he is a large reason they are winning.
FIRST STAR: Antti Miettinen, Minnesota Wild (1-0-0) – A late surge by the Wild top line lifted them over the Ducks 5-4. Right in the middle was Miettinen, who scored a powerplay goal in the third to tie the game at four and push it into overtime. Miettinen also scored an even strength goal and assisted on a goal by Mikko Koivu. The 29-year-old also finished a plus two and put three shots on net making him our first star of the game.
HONORABLE MENTION(S): Jordan Tootoo, Koivu
