Similar to our Daily 3 Stars, this section will break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every week and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO)
THIRD STAR: Teemu Selanne, Anaheim Ducks (0-0-1) – The Ducks all-time leading scorer was among the League’s hottest players this week. The 39-year-old scored three goals and added two assists in four games, with four of those points coming on the powerplay. Selanne added two penalty minutes and 14 shots on goal while maintaining an even plus/minus. On the season, the right wing now has 14 goals in 25 games.
SECOND STAR: Brad Richards, Dallas Stars (0-1-0) – Still flying well below the radar, the 29-year-old is once again an elite playmaker. This past week was no different as the center scored one goal and assisted on five more. Although he finished the week a minus one, his five powerplay points and 17 shots were enough to put him in this spot.
FIRST STAR: Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins (1-0-0) – The Kid’s five point outbreak against the Rangers propelled him into this spot, scoring five goals and assisting on three more in four games. Two of those points came on the powerplay while Crosby took 16 shots on goal and added four penalty minutes to his line. The former 1st overall pick in 2005 now has 30 points in 27 games.
HONORABLE MENTION(S): Evgeni Malkin, Sean Avery, Alexander Ovechkin, Marian Gaborik, David Backes
