In this section, I break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP, PIM, SOG; Goalies – W, GAA, SV%, SHO)
THIRD STAR: Mike Cammalleri, Montreal Canadiens (0-0-1) – Only one game last night, making the options for 3 Stars pretty thin. Cammy stood out among his peers, scoring a goal, adding five shots and finishing the night a plus two. The Canadiens victory over the Blue Jackets was a pretty well-rounded effort in which four different players scored. The left wing now has four goals in his last three games making him one of the hottest player in hockey.
SECOND STAR: Anton Stralman, Columbus Blue Jackets (0-1-0) – The secret is out on Stralman, he is one of the hottest PP quarterbacks in the league. I admit it, I have been sceptical but this kid is simply impressive. Adding a goal and an assist (one on the powerplay), the Swedish defenseman finished the night contributing in four of six offensive categories. Not his best outing, but it certainly adds to his numbers evenly. See if Stralman is still available in your league and take a long hard look at your teams current defensemen.
FIRST STAR: Marc-Andre Bergeron, Montreal Canadiens (1-0-0) – A late addition to this Canadiens team, the veteran defenseman was brought in to fill the gapping hole left by Andrei Markov’s injury. So far the two have been a match made in heaven. Bergeron scored two goals last night, adding a whopping eight shots and finishing the night a plus three. If your fantasy powerplay needs a boost here is your guy.
HONORABLE MENTION(S): Antoine Vermette, Carey Price
