Another new feature here on NHLHS. I will break down the top three fantasy hockey performers every night and cite why I chose them in particular. In addition, I will track the amount of times the players have received this honor and tally them at the end of the season. For the sake of clarity, I will be using Yahoo! standard categories (Forwards – G,A,+/-, PP,PIM, SOG; Goalies – W,GAA,SV%,SHO)
THIRD STAR: Keith Ballard (0-0-1), Florida Panthers -Ballard is one of three Florida players to make the list last night. The Panthers exploded in their 6-2 route of the Sabres and Ryan Miller. Ballard posted three assists, one on the powerplay, and was a plus two. When you add his SOG to that total, Ballard spread across 4 offensive categories, good enough for third star.
SECOND STAR: Dominic Moore, Florida Panthers (0-1-0) – The second of the Panthers to be mentioned, the younger Moore brother potted a goal and an assist against Miller. In addition, he added two PIM, two SOG and boasted a plus 2. Thats production across five categories, an impressive total regardless of the jersey. Moore registered himself into fantasy relevance last year with the Leafs, monitor his progress as he may get a chance at top line minutes once again. However, previous to this game he registered only one assist in eight games.
FIRST STAR: Rostislav Olesz, Nashville Predators (1-0-0) – Olesz posted almost identical statistics to Moore with the exception of one more shot, giving him the edge over Moore. The former first round pick shows flashes of his lofty draft status, however the potential has yet to translate. I would chalk up tonight to a rusty game for an overworked Ryan Miller.
HONORABLE MENTION(S): Michael Frolik, Ales Hemsky, Gilbert Brule, Antti Miettinen
